Manufacturing in Sukagawa City

 The city of Sukagawa is situated in the center of Fukushima prefecture, and serves as the gateway to the Tohoku region. The city is blessed with bountiful natural resources and boasts excellent transport connections, with ready access to the Tohoku and Banetsu expressways and the Abukuma Kogen Road, as well as the Tohoku shinkansen (bullet train) and regular train services on the Tohoku main line and the Suigun line. Sukagawa is also home to Fukushima Airport, the only airport in the prefecture. With such excellent access to a rapid transport network, Sukagawa is ideally positioned as a logistics hub for goods, services and information, and is within easy reach of all major centers. Linking Tokyo and the Tohoku region, as well as the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, Sukagawa has become an important conduit between Fukushima and the rest of the world.

 It currently has eight industrial parks that are home to around 170 businesses that generate over JPY 170 billion worth of product shipments. It is also home to the Sukagawa Technical Research Garden which still has lots for sale.  Sukagawa is truly a city of industry, home to a wide variety of industries from cutting-edge nano-technology through to traditional heavy machinery. The main industry groupings are production machinery and equipment (11.6%), metal products (10.5%), and electrical machinery and equipment (9.3%). As a city of industry, Sukagawa provides a supportive environment to both existing and new businesses by giving them access to a variety of local industry support schemes such as the Koriyama Area Technopolis Promotion Organization and specific initiatives to promote technology development and information services.

 The Sukagawa Industrial Product Certification Scheme promotes product development and product sales in Sukagawa by setting and promulgating its own standards for the industrial products of local businesses, and supports marketing and promotion services in Sukagawa and beyond. 67 products from 27 manufacturers have been certified thus far, which is proof of the high level of business activity in the city.
